Dar es Salaam, August 2025 – Tanzania has witnessed a remarkable surge in digital payments in 2024, as the Tanzania Instant Payment System (TIPS)—a central bank-operated real-time clearing system—processed TSh 29.9 trillion (about US $11.6 billion) in transactions by December, more than double the TSh 12.5 trillion (~US $4.9 billion) seen in 2023.
Zambia is requesting an additional $145 million by extending its IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) by another 12 months beyond its scheduled October 2025 expiry. This follows ~$1.55 billion already disbursed from a $1.7 billion programme launched in August 2022
